Top Chef
I've been fascinated with top chef for the past 8 weeks or so after catching a marathon thanksgiving weekend when I was preparing food for the 9 guests.
I am fascinated with cooking. It is the new love and passion of my life, not replacing game development, of course, but certainly augmenting it. While I have turned programming into a career, cooking and martial arts have now slipped into the place of my hobby. I have made it a point to cook for friends at least once a week, usually on a Sunday, experimenting with new recipes, learning the base and then trying to make it my own.
So obviously, Top Chef is going to be one of my favorite shows.
I loved it, and I cannot wait until season 3. But now I'm going to talk about tonights episode.
I think Ilan was a great guy, and obviously he is a very talented and passionate chef, and very friendly with the other contestants. If it was up to me, however, I would've had Sam in his place in the final two tonight. Sam has presence, Sam has skill, and he has a sort of command in the kitchen that I admire and wish I had myself. Only recently have I started taking less of a "I'll do it all" role and worked on the art of delegating tasks. But, Sam wasn't there, and it was Ilan. And while I'm not sad or angry that he won.
I wanted Marcel to win.
I was sad to see Marcel not win, but he just stumbled in that last sprint, so it's understandable. The guy has a lot of spirit, and I love the concept of molecular gastronomy, taking cooking as an applied science and just breaking out of the box. I know that he was painted as a villain, and the wolverine hairdo certainly helped that picture, but I never saw what was so bad about him. Give him enough time in the real world, and he will learn soon enough what behavior is appropriate or not. I was rooting for Marcel, and he's obviously a very cool guy. I've been watching the extra videos on Bravo for the past hour and a half. yeah, I'm obsessed.
speaking of which, I should go to bed. Any other Top Chefs out there?
